Are you worried about losing focus or concentration at work? Do you feel mentally exhausted every night? Do you struggle with deadlines all the time? Well, then read on, this article is just for you.
We all want to be more productive at work, but it’s easier said than done. We fall behind somehow because of many reasons. Let’s discuss what they are and give you actionable advice on improving your workplace productivity daily, 1% at a time.
Tips to Increase Your Work Productivity Daily – 1% Daily Improvement
#1: Get Rid Of All Digital Distractions – We live at a time when every possible news, information and entertainment in the world are available to us wherever we are – through the little computer commonly referred to as a smartphone.
But technology does not always make people smarter or more efficient. In fact, it’s the opposite of that – because of smartphones and the social media, people these days seem to have the attention span of a gold fish.
This is especially true with young people. You just cannot get them to focus on work for even 15 minutes straight without checking out their phone. Obvious it takes a toll on their workplace productivity.
Do you have a smartphone addiction as well? Well, make it a rule – no internet browsing, watching YouTube videos or checking out social media updates when you’re at work or are studying. Stick to this rule come what may.
#2: Do the Hard Stuff First Thing in The Morning – Read Brian Tracy’s famous book Eat the Frog where he explains why you should do the hardest and most important tasks first thing in the morning. Don’t procrastinate; don’t put the tasks off to be done later. If you want to be more productive and do better at work, then as Mr. Tracy says, “Eat the ugliest frog first.”
#3: Stop multitasking – It’s funny how so many people say proudly that they are multitaskers – no, there is nothing good about multitasking. That is in fact the biggest reason why workplace productivity is going down across the world. The human brain can do only task at a time. Our working memory is limited and can focus only on one thing at a time. When you do multiple tasks at once that really saps your brain power and you end up losing focus.
#4: Follow the Pomodoro Technique – The Pomodoro Technique is one of the ways to improve your work productivity. It was developed by Francesco Cirillo, who wrote a book about it. Basically this technique involves making use of a timer that breaks your work or study time into intervals of 25 minutes each. Each interval is separated by a short break of about 5 minutes.
#5: Make a To-Do List the Night Before – At the end of the day, just before going to bed, make a to-do list of all the tasks to be done the next day. This will give you a clear idea of what needs to be done. Your to-do list should have only 3 or 4 items at best; not more than that. Otherwise you will not take it seriously.
Start implementing these tips and you will see how your productivity improves. Also, it’s make the most of your spare time and pick up critical skills that will help you advance at your career. Why don’t you have a look at the online courses at SKILLFIN Learning to begin with?
